What are invertebrates
Invertebrates are so named because of they do not have a dorsal spinal cord like in mammals, reptiles, fishes, birds and amphibians. They vastly outnumber the vertebrates in terms of number of species in existence (They account for 99% of animal species). It might surprise you how many of them you see on a daily basis that you take for granted. Invertebrates include insects, crustaceans, snails, octopi, squid, worms, corals, jellyfish, and much more.
These animals have impacted human civilization tremendously. Many diseases that have plagued mankind have been attributed to them but there are also many medical breakthroughs that they have made possible. Research on these organisms have yielded valuable information that we have used for our benefit.
